Question:

Answer:

What is the largest cluster size that can be managed by ABC?

Aspen Systems Beowulf Cluster management software is designed to scale up to 65,535 nodes, but we've never ran ABC on a cluster of that size. On small and medium clusters, the master node often runs the ABC suite, while on large clusters, we recommend that you utilize a dedicated administrative node. For clusters larger than 2000 nodes, we recommend that a 2nd ABC server node be installed so that we can load balance status polling and provide adequate interactive performance via the ABC interface.

What types of devices can be monitored with ABC?
Any intelligent IP peripheral that has an IP stack can be monitored for UP/DOWN status. Devices with an SNMP stack can report any of their MIB elements through the ABC application.
Do all compute nodes within a cluster need to be the same architecture? ABC can support any mix of heterogeneous nodes within a cluster. See the System Requirements section for more information.
How does one log in to the ABC application? Access to the ABC application is browser based on port 443 (https) or port 10150. We can configure ABC as a standard non-encrypted web service (port 80) but we don't recommend that configuration.
Does ABC run on 32-bit architectures? Yes, ABC runs on Intel and AMD 32-bit architectures.
How does ABC implement security?

ABC security is enabled through the use of a Secure Socket Layer implementation for Java servlets. An authorized login is required in order to use the system, and this login is used by ABC to authenticate proxied web pages as well.

Can I install ABC on my current Beowulf cluster? Please see the System Requirements section to determine if ABC can be installed on your cluster.
