Blade Systems
Blade systems are dual and quad socket platforms design to fit in the smallest footprint possible. They require the same planning and design that other single, dual and quad socket platforms require. Blade systems represent the cutting edge for dense computing environments. Blade systems provide the highest socket density per unit of rack space, yielding more performance with a smaller footprint. With up to 40 sockets per 7U, that is over a 42% increase per 1U - even more dense than the densest 2-in1U! Combine that with over 1.2 TB of memory per 7U footprint, blade system offer a plethora of configuration option to meet your needs.
Blade systems can range from simple to complex. Simple nodes start with dual socket platforms with dual channel memory configurations, six memory slots and memory support up to 24 GB of memory support. to quad socket blades with eight memory channels configurations sixteen memory slots.
Blade systems also carry integrated management features, further reducing the amount of infrastructure needed in the construction of your cluster. Blade systems provide integrated management of power, KVM, and networking. With on board InfiniBand and an InfiniBand switch integrated right into the chassis, the blade system significantly reduces the amount of cabling required. This high level of integration in a blade can save you quit a lot in cabling costs as well as provide better power and cooling efficiency. For example, a blade setup with just ten nodes with InfiniBand can save you over $1000 in just InfiniBand cabling alone.
Blade systems are also extremely green solutions due to their high efficiency power supplies. Today’s blades can achieve 92% efficiency. Since all the blades share the same power backplane, there is less wasted energy between nodes.
