RAID Storage
Aspen Systems tests and integrates the newest RAID technology into its custom RAID solutions, ensuring maximum uptime, reliability and data security. Serial ATA is the technology of choice for a cost-effective yet reliable RAID storage solution. SATA runs at high transmission rates, yet its encoding technology improves timing and data checking over that of IDE RAID storage systems, making it comparable to SCSI, but at a much lower overall price. Hardware RAID is implemented using either an internal RAID card (adapter / HBA) or chip, or an external RAID enclosure (subsystem). Internal RAID, like software RAID, is operating system dependent. It usually requires a driver to access and configure the RAID controller. However, an internal RAID controller can often communicate faster than an external controller, because access to the data requires one less communications layer. External controllers offer more flexibility in the number of drives they can address. They are not operating-system dependent, as internal controllers are, can talk to more than one host, offer hot-swap capabilities, and are better for failover configurations.
