Training: Job Scheduling Software

Clusters are replacing supercomputers and mainframe computers in the computing center. The user base is rapidly expanding and has differing needs when it comes to machine configuration. This, coupled with differing approaches to job scheduling and resource management, has lead to many different software packages that perform similar functions. Our workshop will explore each of the packages that perform job scheduling and how they differ.

Topics Include:

  • PBS (Open PBS, PBS Pro)
  • GRID Engine (Sun's GRE)
  • Maui scheduler
  • Queue creation
  • Job submission
  • Monitoring queues
  • Resource allocation
