Upgrading is easy! Most 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors (excluding Advanced Performance (AP)) are socket compatible with prior versions of the Intel Xeon Scalable processor motherboards and systems. In most cases, you simply need to update to the latest version of the BIOS to support the 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors. For customers who have already qualified existing motherboards and systems, it is a seamless upgrade offering significant price/performance gains vs. previous gen processors.

Unprecedented Memory Bandwidth – up to 12 memory channels (6 per die), with Enhanced DDR4-2933 performance support, with total memory performance greater than any other CPU on the enterprise market today.
Extract more value from larger datasets than previously possible by utilizing Optane™ Apache Pass technology, which allows for high-performance persistent 3D XPoint memory in a normal DDR4 DIMM package, as well as allowing for Optane technology in PCIe as high-performance starge.
One of the greatest benefits of Cascade Lake architecture is its ability to utilize Optane DC persistent memory technology, leveraging Apache Pass and 3D XPoint (pronounced “cross-point”) technology to deliver unprecedented memory performance. Up to 36TB of high-performance, high-bandwidth Ultra-fast persistent DDR4-2933 DIMMS (UFPM). This is a great solution for very large memory nodes, or “fat nodes”.
The 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor delivers compelling performance gains and TCO benefit for existing systems based on previous generations of Intel Xeon Scalable processors. This gives your organization a perfect opportunity to refresh and modernize. Cascade Lake SP allows for up to 28 cores on a single-socket compute node, or 56 cores in a dual-socket node, and the Cascade Lake AP allows up to 56 cores on a single socket node and 112 for a dual socket. Improved Turbo frequencies up to 4.4 GHz speeds are possible. Intel® Speed Select allows for multiple CPU “personalities” (configuration options) based on workload needs.
Cascade Lake Processors come with Intel® Security Essentials, a built-in foundation of core security capabilities, but that’s not all. In addition, Cascade Lake offers multiple hardware security solutions. Several of the ‘side-channel’ security variants, such as the “Meltdown” and “Spectre” vulnerabilities, among others, which were previously addressed with Operating System and other software updates, now have several integrated hardware mitigation built directly into the silicon.

AI acceleration with Intel® Deep Learning Boost provides up to 3 times the Deep Learning throughput vs previous generation of Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors. Vector Neural Network Instruction set (VNNI) and Brain floating-point format (bfloat16) capabilities accelerates AI/Deep Learning workloads and neural networks, perfect for image and video recognition, classification, analysis and object detection, as well as speech recognition, language translation, and natural language processing.

The Cascade Lake Advance Processor (AP) has a new larger socket over 6000 pins, and requires a different Socket Type than the standard Xeon Scalable series, as it is multiple dies in a single package. The S9200WK Servers Family is Cascade Lake AP ready, and is purpose built and performance-optimized for use in High Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence applications.
